droid you missed my point, columbia deserve to be up there for winning copa america so they should be above england who can't even beat greece who aren't in top 40, wales by the way are just outside the top 100 |

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmthere appear to be some very dodgy rankings. 19.USA sticks out,surely they can't be above ROI. 21-40 you would have thought/expected Turkey,Poland and Belgium to be higher considering who are around them in the table.
Taff,true we didn't beat Greece(who tonight in turn have lost to Cyprus) but with what was riding on the Old Trafford match,I didn't expect anything other than a jittery English performance against the Greeks.

does make interseting reading. i think the usa ranking is a bit premature, and if we are going on about england being high up and not being able to beat greece, what are brazil doing at number 2, they can't win at all. and france at no.1, they could only manage a draw with the aussies, croatia at 16, couldn't beat either of the korean sides!!! (as my portfolio now shows  ).nice thread Rangers  |

basically then, what is being said here is that fifa, the world governing body for football, don't know their ass from their elbow.As a suggestion why don't we setup a worldwide petition to get DS members elected onto FIFA as I am sure some of us could do a better job |

Ireland at 20th is too low.....they beat netherlands, drew with them, drew with portugal twice, won all other group games. Beat sweden and denmark in friendlies.England at 7th is too high. Couldn't even beat Greece..... |

as far as i know these ratings go off how teams play and who they actually beat as well. englands record in the last 12 months since god took over has been pretty impressive so that would explain why theyre 9th (warlock which list are u reading lol).i think this is the best showing we've had in a long while. you also have to remember that some teams will play a lot more games than others as well elly |

Ireland did that...they couldn't beat Sweden.....Ireland did that....the way this ranking is done is weird....there should be a new one every year from which all teams start equal...Brazil are definately not second.... |

Points are allocated for each match played. Away wins scoring more points than home wins.
More points are allocated to FIFA competitions than friendlies. Major Tourneys like EURO 2000 get even more points allocated. Hence Slovenia, tunisia and the likes feature in the top 40.   |

Certain teams are kept high in the rankings because they are crowd pullers. Most people would want to watch England play in their country than Scotland, or Wales or even Ireland, who have a better record over the last few years than we have. |

nelo the rankings are not someones opinion but based on ACTUAL results, qualifications and performances in tournaments. Brazil are still ranked 2nd because of the huge number of points they got for winning the 1994 world cup and coming second in 1998. The system is outdated and needs to be looked at again seriously. The Czech Republic have never been a quality side and are still hanging on in the top10 because of their lucky run in euro96. |

I know its not based on one game but the table shows mexico are better than england and the are clearly not. The only reason they are there is because they play lots of friendlies against lower nations in that part of the world. |

The Germans rose two places because of an 'emphatic win over Israel' in a friendly. What about Englands demolition of Germany in a World Cup qualifier, surely that ranks as more than an emphatic win?FIFA don't know their arses from their elbows (a bit like the probation service but that's a different story). |

The rankings reflect games play over x amount of months/years. Okay, some teams may have had a poor/good world cup but these may play only a little part in the rankings. |

Pretty glad for the Welsh, especially because they have legends like Mark Hughes and of course Ryan Giggs.But Scotland being in the top 500 list is enough to make me want to be sick, this land of louts, tlts , pricks and skirt wearing losers has without doubt a team that ranks the same as San Marino, Faroe islands, Andorra etc. |

surely theres something seriusly wrong with these rankings?how teams 4-9 can be ranked above england is beyond me. especially the USA. Aint in funny how Greece went from nowhere to 14th! I was there when they won that. U've never seen anything like it, shotgun shells being fired off in the street, jumping on police cars, fireworks, flares. U name it, it was happening! lol. Glad to see ya still playin DS rangers, ows it goin m8? |

looking at some of the posts, i noticed a few people didnt get the rules and procedures of the ranking system. It all started back in the early 90's. The whole ranking takes the past 8 years into consideration. The current year (year 1) results and performances are used most effectively whilst the results from past years are being used less and less. They only take into consideration the top 7 matches each nation notch points for. The points awarded are split from many different views for instance. Depending if you win, draw or lose. Whether it was away or at home counts too. Importance of the match then comes into it. Was it a friendly or a competitive match? And finally, the region the nation comes from. With Europe and South America being the continents producing the better teams, they get more points than nations from Asia for instance. The games importance rates like this: Most important to least important - World Cup matches, World Cup Qualifiers, FIFA Confederations Cup, Continental Competitions Finals, Continental Competitions Qualifiers and finally friendleys. They go on more recent results than the past but dont forget that as each year passes (8 years in total) the results mean nothing. Take the England win back in '66. Means nothing now. But Englands 5-1 win means something, only a little though. Same as Wales Euro 2004 qualifiers. Means more than Englands 5-1, but not as important as this years qualifiers and friendleys and of course Euro 2004 itself. With recent results. Scotland havent won this term, nor have Wales. England though have won all but 1 of there matches, which in turn helps England. Hope this helps a lot. And you there. You know who you are. WAKE UP! lol |
